Thanks for the comments, this axle I have shortened by 6"" o/a, and done my my prefered method of cutting the axle tubes, sleeving with an internal "spreader" tube, then plug and full welding. The reason, well as y'all know,Reliant axles are becoming scarce, so removing the tubes frm the diff. alloy casing is risky, and can cause cracking, soooo...use this method if you want security!and peace of mind! and anyway,Ford, MGB and almost all other axles, you have to shorten by this method, well, give it some thought y'all, Morrag

Cheers Mr.M.M. the reason for inc. pic is to illustrate the dangers off removing any shrunk fitted casting, which I know you are aware off. You might also be interested in the method I use to shorten the half shafts, as I don't sleeve, not for the sort of Torque/Weight on the average trike, which exludes V8's etc!!!Please check pics,I do get the shafts Tig welded though, Morrag

Also very tidy  Smiley
Good to offer alternative methods of doing any job here. Personally I sleeve & pin, but that's cos I don't have a lathe!
