I was going to make one of those with 1/4 bsp thread, but space is tight and it wont fit .What type of  fan controller are you going to use? The capillary sensor I am using could be fitted using  a 1/4 bsp adaptor with an olive to clamp the capillary  sensor into, but not seen one using 1/8 npt.

Sorry Rod, a bit late I know, using an adaptor like this so I can use an off the shelf switch, hardly elegant though

Ive done around 35 miles on the trike today, and apart from running out of fuel Embarrassed ..long story! One of the new fan senders has been doing its job very well.No fan required at slowish in town driving, but travelling at constant 45/50 mph the coolant heats up slowly , and eventually the fan kicks in and the temp needle visibly drops. If I slow down to say 30mph, or when in a traffic jam, the temp drops and the fan switches off.Ambient temp here today is warmer, but Im still waiting for hotter days to see how the fan/temp performs. All tests carried out with thermostat still fitted.

Update...
Just been out on trike,2 up, lots of twisty lanes, inclines (and gear changing!) ! About 30 odd miles return trip.started first time after a 1 hour break half way.No water loss, no oil leaks , plus fan not required for most of the outward journey, then came on at 100 degs and dropped rapidly to about 90 degs.stands on soapbox and SHOUTS...."I THINK IVE F@*#^NG CURED IT! This is the first time ever Ive rode it without a problem arising.

So IF you've cured it ( not wanting to jinx it) what do you think did it ? On mine fan cuts in at 95-100 and back out about 90 . I keep meaning to fit a manual switch as well 'just in case'.

Thanks all (he says gently and tentatively!)
Kev...I raised the rad from 3" lower than thermostat to a little higher than a reliant usually has.
Refitted the loose vac advance on dizzy.
.The original fan was too small, fitted larger fan.
Fitted a new non thermostatic fan switch in place of the second thermostatic switch I had fitted. They just didnt work correctly .
So imho a combo of poor rad mount design, not enough cooling, and poor dizzy action.
