Title: Reliant Chassis
Post by: reliantman on February 15, 2007, 11:29:05 AM
Saw this on fleabay a while back.

Different and closer to torquay than anything else I've seen on fleabay, I must be totally mental though as I quite liked it in a quirky sort of way. A few alterations to the rectangular frame, change the springs to bike shocks a paint job, be okay, would'nt it? :-\
I must say that I prefer Mr. Manky's frames though, just a shame that he's so far away. Would have to come down and stay a while to and have lots of cake make it worth the trip ;) :D ;D

Surely just the pleasure of our company's worth the trip isn't it?
We really haven't got the facilities to build frames to order. Ska Man's already talked of changing the locks once I've moved out of his garage!
Reliant chassis are pretty flimsy once you unbolt the body. I've stood at the back end of one & twisted it down it's length by hand. I guess the top tubes of this one would beef it up but I'd still rather build from scratch.
Personally I think it's pig-ugly too, but it's a purely personal opinion.

I agree about the chassis.
The metal is less than an inch thick and its galvanised which would make it hard to weld.
Easier to build a new chassis I think.

Most of it's box section, so no more than about 5 mill thick, but looks like there might be a couple of extra braces in there.
Not my kind of thing but they seem to sell on Ebay don't they so someone's buying 'em.

I put 'less than an inch', and it should have been less than a mm.

My first trike was nearly something like that - I didn't know any better at the time!  What put me off tho, even with my lack of knowledge, was that the seat was fastened to the frame with what appeared to be bits of meccano!  - rather tired bits at that.

Thank goodness I saw the light and had Gertie triked!

I called it an 'out' joke cos it's a reference to something on another forum - don't think I can explain it, you'd have to be there!
