I might come along if it's not too freezing cold - really enjoyed the company last time (cheers JJ) but it WAS damn cold!  I didn't cough up for the sponsorship but I can always chuck a tenner in on the day.

Don't worry Bobbi, I think there'll be plenty of spaces spare. It's a shame cos it'd be nice to repay the generosity of those who contributed.

Probably all of the above.
Unless we get the Pop sorted in the next week or 2, (can't see it happenin' somehow!), I'll be in my Fiesta. I've got the entry ticket for everyone, so don't want to risk breaking down on the way!

Right then people. Last chance for a free day out this Sunday if you fancy it.
For those who may have missed it & have no idea what this is about, here's a quick recap:
As a forum, we sponsor a chimpanzee at MonkeyWorld, the ape rescue centre in Wareham, Dorset. Over the past 5 or 6 years we've raised over a thousand quid between us -which ain't bad going for a small forum, most of whom have never met each other.
As part of the adoption package, we get a free entry ticket for up to 30 people -it's a one use thing, so we have to gather together as many forum members as we can to make use of it. Once we've all trooped through the entry gate, we're free to go off & explore & spend the day however we want. MonkeyWorld's a 65 acre park, with all sorts of enclosures, housing all sorts of apes. If you've ever seen Monkey Business on the telly, that's the place. There's a huge kids' adventure playground, restaurant & other food outlets, gift shop etc, as well as talks by the keepers, feeding times -it's a full day out for the family.
Trouble is, we always struggle to fill our 30 people quota. It's tough trying to get that many of us together in one spot at one time. So why not come & join us. You don't have to arrive on a custom vehicle. You don't have to spend the whole day marching round in a huge group together. Just turn up, say Hi, pass through the turnstile & have a day out on us. Bring the kids & make a day of it.
So, we're meeting in the carpark of MonkeyWorld, Wareham, Dorset, BH20 6HH at 11.00am this Sunday, the 28th of April.
The list so far is:
Manky Monkey.
JJ and grandchildren.
Chevy Rick.
TrikerPete, Chrissie & Emily.
Flap.
BG (possibly)
Simple Simon and troop.

So we've got room for at least another dozen bods. Come  & join us.

Yay, me and two grandchildren!

Not sure why I'm getting excited, I don't even like Monkeys!  But a day out with the kids PLUS meeting up with all you fine peeps, sounds like fun.

Think I'll be wearing my ski jacket and thermals though!

Right, I'm leaving home for Dorset in just a few minutes, so this is your very last chance to come & join us! I'm meeting up with Mr Flap, who's riding his new bike. Passed his test about 6 months ago & hasn't ridden more than 2 miles since, so should be an interesting journey! (I'll be in my car).
If you're sitting at home thinking you're bored & got nothing to do, jump in your motor & head to Wareham, Dorset. We're meeting in the carpark of MonkeyWorld at 11am. All you have to do is say Hello, shuffle through the turnstile with us, then you're free to enjoy the day any way you like. I was in Chelsea, that London place, last night at a hotrod meet & didn't get home till 1am this morning, so I'll be the one asleep in his car, (look for a silver Ford Fiesta).
Bring the kids & do something fun.  :)

Well, what can I say? Just got back, safe and sound despite my clutch not engaging when we tried leave.  With Flaps bike playing up (hope you got back ok mate) and JJ's Mobility scooter breaking down I think that it's safe to say all 3 bad things are out of the way.
Thanks to Andy once again for another great day, if a bit cold.

Hi guys.
Nice to see everyone today. 15 of us in all, which ain't bad considering we're so spread out across the country. The weather was kind to us after all the recent rain, hail etc. A little chilly but dry. Flap & I travelled the 80 miles from Basingstoke in Hampshire down to Dorset this morning, stopping at Rownhams services on the M27 for breakfast. Flap's Honda Hornet has only done 400 miles in the last year & the battery appears to have died. That meant I had to push start him every time we stopped anywhere, but other than that, no problems.
We were the last to arrive, as always, & found a ragtag army of Monkeys & children/grandchildren waiting for us at the gate. A quick head count & we passed through the turnstile. We had a ticket for up to 30 people & I did think about offfering free entry to the next few people in the queue, but wasn't sure what the staff would think of that & as they rely on visitors to pay for the upkeep of MonkeyWorld, it's not really in the spirit of the thing to deprive them of the entry fees.
We soon split up & went our seperate ways to stroll around the grounds, but bumped into various forumers during the day. Flap & I enjoyed it. Apes are fascinating creatures -far more intelligent than some of the people watching them! Micky, our adopted Chimpanzee, is the oldest & greyest in his family group. We think we spotted him, but he didn't make himself known to us, so we're not entirely sure. Maybe they should wear name badges, or a hat or something. Loved the Orangutans & the Capuchins & Woolly Monkeys were very cute. Somehow managed to miss the Lemurs, but visited the Gibbons & lots of others.
A very relaxed, simple day out. I was at a hotrod meet in London last night & didn't get home till the early hours of the morning, so apologies if I didn't chat to everyone, but I was half asleep! It was lovely to see you all though & I hope the kids all had a good time.
Mr Flap & I had a thoroughly enjoyable, "spirited" journey back through the Wiltshire/Hampshire countryside, him blasting the cobwebs out of his bike & me tagging along behind in my car. A good day. Thanks to everyone who came along. Let's do it again next year.  ;D

Nice to see everyone again and nice to meet Flap.

Thanks Simon for doing your best to get my scooter started again. If nothing else, it is a bit cleaner!   :)

Bobbi, thanks for your help with the free running lever which you must have put up and down numerous times while we tried to get it going and thanks for getting the boys back to the car park for me.  However, I don't thank you for the photos! :-[  ;D

The children enjoyed themselves again. It is nice that they get on so well together but I think because they are all naturally friendly and considerate of others, they just hit it off.

Thanks Sharon and Bethany for getting the park's scooter back to the top for me after I had a lift with the gardener. I know Bethany was disappointed she couldn't drive it (too young) but she was good with the encouragement. I think Bobbi's photo sums up your trepidation Sharon, at being in charge.

Cheers Chevy Rick for coming back to make sure I was okay after you had already left for home, but then again, you are a sweetheart.   :-*  Oh dear, that will ruin your street cred.

I know they won't read this but thanks also to Monkey World personnel for being so kind and helpful. I will be putting a card in the post to let their boss know.

Anyway hopefully we are all safely home now. A good day in spite of the mechanical problems. We truly are a Manky lot. The weather though quite cool was at least dry so that was a bonus and hopefully next year we can fully utilise our allotted 30 spaces.

Cheers Andy for arranging it and hopefully, we will see you all at Basingstoke.

JJ  :)

Yup, see you in a couple of weeks. It wouldn't be a MMMotors run if someone didn't break down!
We think this was Micky. 31 years old this year. He said Thanks for all your donations by the way.

Our engraved granite paving slab in one of the many "Walks of Thanks" around the park. It could do with a clean!
Thank you again to everyone here who donated for our continued adoption. Over the last 4 or 5 years we've raised well over a thousand quid towards the rehabilitation of the animals in MonkeyWorld & the rescue of more in the future. I'm very proud of you lot.  :-*
