while on a day out to the Georgian day in the town of Armagh,a sort of Christmas market where all the local council staff and stall traders dress in Georgian attire we found out the old gaol was open to the public so we went for a wander round.

it was built in 1780 and then extended a few times up until it's closure in 1986 and was the gaol for counties Armagh,Monaghan,Cavan and parts of Down,Fermanagh and Tyrone (before partition)

That's an imposing looing place. Wouldn't want a holiday in one, but always find that kinda place interesting. Actually, I have holidayed in a jail. Drumnadrochit in the Scottish Highlands. The local jail is now a B & B.

Our local 'Lifers' gaol has closed recently Kingston Prison Portsmouth. Im hoping it's listed otherwise it'll get knocked down and turned into a million one room apartments ( no chagne there really then ? )

They are closing our local prison, apparently it's too old to be modernised (not enough room to fit ensuites etc).
