Kermit the Thug has gone. Left my life forever. Out there somewhere with a new owner. Sold my beloved Triumph Speed Triple last night. Been thinking for a while that it was turning me into a hooligan -or perhaps just releasing my inner yob. Was frightened of it to begin with, hence the name, cos it was big & green & scary. Soon found myself riding everywhere at 120mph though! Needed to slow down before I lost my licence or my life. Also couldn't afford to run it. Had it a year & did no maintainance at all, simply cos I couldn't afford to. Too complex to work on myself & I can't pay 45 quid an hour for a dealer service. Decided to down size. Cheaper to run, cheaper insurance etc. Sell Kermy, buy something smaller & have cash left over. So. The problem: what do I buy? Stumbled across two possibilities today. A friend is selling a CB1000 Honda. Absolutely immaculate. Won't sell it to me unless I promise to look after it. Worth 2 - 2 1/2 grand. Mine for 1500. But it's as big as Kermy & just as fast. But I'd have spare change & an ultra reliable bike. Or- found a cut down ratty XJ1200 Yam for 450 quid. Cheap winter hack while I finish the trike, but might break down every 100 miles. Neither have MOTs. Third choice was buy a rod. A little custom car project to play with, but having seen some of the asking prices I think that's a non starter. So what should I do? With the lovely Rainbow living 35 miles away I need transport of some kind but the trike will still be number one machine in my life. Opinions please.

go for the CB1000 and when the trike is done you can sell it for more than you paid for it :-)

Wonder how many donuts I could buy for 1500 quid? No, don't work it out Yodie! They were rhetorical donuts. O.K, decision made. Much to Wizzy's disgust I won't be buying a pile of scrap tin masquarading as a rod project, but will be collecting the Mr Sensible Honda tomorrow. The guy selling it is arranging the MOT for tomorrow, (he's confident it'll pass -only done 40 miles since the last one!), & I've changed my insurance, so if the cover note arrives in time I could ride it to the NABD do on Saturday. If not, a mate has offered me the loan of an old V50 Guzzi.

The Honda's so much more sensible than anything interesting. I'll send you a picture of my street rod when it's done. as far as hotrod goes i like something dark and menacing, in a 'Christine' type of way will look for a pic Yoda

Take a look at the new link Yodie's just added or find it via the "Cool site" thread. Lots of dark & menacing machinery.

Shoulda persuaded him to sell it to you! Would certainly keep the hooligan under control - not so sure about fulfilling the reliability bit tho! I was offered a V50 when I was still on my baby bike - would have had it too but he wouldn't take £3.50 and a few shirt buttons..... I like Guzzis!
