One way to check is to
{ 1 } Leave the bolt on thick live feed connected and disconnect the original starter solenoid wire
{ 2 } Connect one end of a new piece of wire to the large top spade on the original starter solenoid terminal
{ 3 } Touch the other end of the new wire direct to the Battery { + }
{ 4 } If the engine starts then the power from the original starter wire must be less so check how much volts are passing down the original starter wire .

Hi Fifer, I did 1, 2 &3 as you suggested and it went "clonk" and I went bugger bugger bugger!!!
Any know if these "piggyback" solenoids are sold seperately of will I have to buy the whole thing?
Cheers

update on startermotor... while i had it off of the trike i clamped it to the benc :)h and fired a full 12v through it via jump leads and it wirred like a goodun Cheesy
fitted it back on trike and now it turns over easily at touch of the button. im wondering if it had just got sticky from lack of use as its been sat for couple of years Smiley

I remember on my rover sd1 i had starting problems no one could figure it out and it turned out to be the paper shielding stuff between the casing and the windings, so no full current to the motor! when I solved it many weekends looking at everything, I had a mint sd1 low mileage for 375 quid!! That turned over instantly on the key.. Smiley

It seems part no. 68000 is a "bulkhead" solenoid and mine is the "piggyback" type which is part of the startermotor. The piggyback type is only available as a complete unit, with startermotor, and is around £120.... im glad I got mine working again  Smiley
