Some rebuild kit prices from Summit Racing, usually one of the lower prices over here: http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?N=700+4294925232+4294870280+400298+4294908110+115+4294840053The re-ring kit is less than $175. If your engine just needs a honing, rings and a home valve job that would almost do it. I'd add main bearings though. Maybe mic the cylinders and also see what kind of ridge cylinders have, make an estimate from there? Have you guys figured out if it's a smallblock or bigblock transmission? If it's smallblock a strong 318 would surprise you with the right gears! Or give fun performance and decent mileage. No, a 318 won't roast the tires going sideways at 50 mph, but they can be real quick. 318-340-360 interchangeable in a car set up for smallblock. 360's can pull 350-375 hp with the right build, 400+ if it's a 360 Magnum!

Chears for that and no we've not found out if the transmission is small or big block yet.

I'll try to attach pic of transmission bellhousings, difference between small block and big block. Big block is on left, smallblock on right. Note difference in where starter boss is, big block at center, smallblock below center.
Will try another pic showing tranny pan outline. 904/A500 smallblock is square with a corner cut off. Big block is irregular outline.

Here's a pic of tranny pan outline. A-904 and A-500 are smallblock. A-518 is the heavy duty 727 transmission with overdrive added, 4 speeds, but it fits a smallblock. Unlikely you'd have an A-518 so if pan is irregular then it's probably a big block 727 3 speed auto. Bellhousing outline and starter location will nail down which it is.

There are American military bases in several countries. The Dodge trucks used on those bases are full of great parts for your project and often the trucks are sold off pretty cheap. Can be a real goldmine for you if there's any bases around. Also those bases may have servicemen's cars around that they didn't want to ship back stateside.

Used to be a huge airbase at RAF, (?) Greenham Common, Newbury, Berks when I lived there as a teenager. They flew F111 fighters & Hercules fuel transporters over the town all day long & kept Cruise missiles on the base. The peace protesters had a permanent camp outside the main gate -they even had their benefit cheques delivered there by the Post Office. It's all gone now & the base is a commercial busines park. The protesters stayed on for years afterwards & only left when the council agreed to build a memorial garden where the camp had been. Loads of huge square pick up trucks around the town in those days. No idea what manufacturer they were from. You could spot the servicemen a mile off in the main street cos they stood literally head & shoulders above the locals & had that typically all American clean cut look about them, even off duty.

Well you never know Taz, plenty of time to come up with another engine!
I was bidding on a PAS rack on Ebay for the Maestro, already lost 2 cos they went too high. Posted on the Maestro club forum to make sure I wasn't bidding against another member and someone on there will shortly have one for sale cheaper than the Ebay one, result!
Always wise to stick to your limit.

Hope it opens more options for you kids. Majority of American Military trucks around the world were Dodge. With Charger originally being smallblock and unknown if big block transmision, engine mounts, exhaust and all the rest has been installed, might be far cheaper to nick a used truck and pirate the whole drivetrain.
Almost everything, engine/carb/ignition, transmission, rear axle & springs, power steering & brakes and so many other parts swap right over from a 60's to 90's Dodge truck to the '69 car!
