My ' 55 Pontiac Chieftan had sat for about 3 years when I bought it as a stocker with a busted trans, which was in the trunk in bits. My mate Dean in Newcastle had one, which he sold to me. When I picked it up I went to the guy's house where the Pontiac was and stuck it in the truck and got him to tow me down to another mate who had a fast fit centre. I dropped it off on the Thursday night, flew down to the Nats on the Friday, flew back on the Sunday and picked up the '55 with it`s new trans, new battery, new service and M.O.T. on the Monday. It was a very reliable car -never had a bit of trouble out of it. Looking at it one day I decided to lower it, so that got done one lunchtime. Then decided to repaint it, then change the colour -so it went from stock ride in primrose and white to red 'n' cream and lowered in about a week. I took it to the last Knebworth SuperNats with a For Sale sign on it. Had a few bites then got a call on the Wednesday following the show from a guy 30 miles away that had seen it at the show. Sold.

I took a prostreet Ford Zodiac and '60 Vauxhall Victor in part exchange against the '55. The Victor was basically stock with a 2.0 litre Pinto engine with 5 speed trans and Wolfrace slotmags. It got put away in one of my rented garages and forgotten till I went in for something else! The Zody was nice and quick -it had a good Rover 5 speed manual box, coupled to a Volvo axle. It sat very low, sounded mean and went like a scalded cat. It would do me till the '47 got finished. Well it didn`t. It went down the road in a deal at the Sheffield show that saw me going home with a good few grand and a nice Pinto`d 5 speed manual boxed Ford 100E.
